about

Salam - Spiritual Desert Blues

The musical lines of Samira's Blues follow the Moroccan roots of lead singer and songwriter Samira Dainan and take you through the Moroccan Sahara to the Malian shore on the other side. A fifty day walk, says the sign in M'Hamid el Ghizlane, the last village before the desert begins. The band covers the same distance in a few minutes: from subdued dreamy pieces to outright desert guitar, with which they have already caused a stir in Niger - thanks to Facebook.

On April 6, her band Samira's Blues will perform their spiritual desert blues in Paradiso Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam. With her tribe, virtuoso guitarist Bas Gaakeer, groove master Hassan Ait-Moumad on bass and the hypnotic drum beats of Abdel Alariachi and Joshua Samson, they present the new E.P. “Salam”.

Their focus on original compositions and interpretation of traditional songs is strongly recognised by the scenes they work with and are inspired by.

In Amsterdam she writes songs together with guitarist Bas Gaakeer. The music relies on both the pentatonic scale and trance-like bass and percussion, prominent in the traditional music of those places. ... more
